Severe Weather Incident - Update

Cornwall at 10/03/2008 05:15

Over the past hour staff at the County Council’s Cornwall Information Centre (CIC) in Scorrier have received a number of calls about fallen trees. These are being dealt with by staff from CORMAC and the Police.

The ‘Silver Control’ incident centre has also received reports of a power failure affecting some areas of Wadebridge. This is currently being dealt with by Western Power.

With the latest forecasts predicting strengthening winds, Cornwall Highways and Devon and Cornwall Police are advising motorists to take extreme care when travelling, particularly along roads which are potentially liable to flooding, and to drive according to the conditions.

There are a number of low lying roads across the county which may be affected by flooding and these sites are being closely monitored by Cornwall Highways. Further information will be released as the situation develops. This may include some road closures. Please contact the CIC (01872 222000) to report any incidents or for up to date information on the road situation.

At present the Tamar Bridge is closed to high sided vehicles, caravans and motor cycles.
