Cornwall's Firefighters Raise Cash For Charity

at 10/03/2008 15:59

Firefighters from across Cornwall raised hundreds of pounds on Saturday by taking part in a charity car wash. The firefighters were accepting donations to the Fire Services National Benevolent Fund to buff bonnets and wash wheels in full firefighter uniform.

Several stations took part in the bi annual national event, and the tally so far is:

Truro - £480

Perranporth - £260

Newquay - £208

Saltash - £140

Wadebridge - £86

St Columb and St Austell also ran events, with the amount raised to be confirmed.

Sub Officer Mark Glanville of Truro’s Green Watch said, “The public support has been fantastic, although of course we did a great job making sure everyone’s cars left us gleaming! We’re absolutely delighted to raise money for such a worthwhile charity and it’s great to see our colleagues across the county doing the same.”

Last year the event raised £200,000 nationally and the charity, which assists serving and former members of the Fire Service and their families, offering support, rest, recuperation and therapy, is hoping to smash that target this year with the public’s help.
