Firefighters from Truro were in attendance four minutes from the time of the call received from a monitoring service, reporting a smoke alarm sounding. The monitoring service was unable to determine from the occupant if there was a fire so, rightly, dialled 999 for the fire brigade.

On arrival the crews confirmed that there was a kitchen fire in a bungalow measuring five metres by five metres. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the property and reassured the occupant, who was safe in another room. The fire was quickly extinguished using one hosereel.

The occupant was suffering smoke inhalation and was checked out by a paramedic, who arrived shortly after the firefighters.
