Local Fundraiser Raises Cash For Fire Brigade

at 04/04/2008 16:32

On Saturday 29th March at the Conservative Club in Newquay, Chief Fire Officer Matt Littmoden accepted a cheque for £750 on behalf of The Fire Fighter’s Charity (formally known as the FSNBF) from local fundraiser Mrs Audrey Warnecke.

The money was raised at an event organised last October in Newquay by Mrs Warnecke, who not only organised a snooker tournament and quiz night but also persuaded taxi drivers in Newquay to donate their tips for that night to the cause.

The Fire Fighter’s Charity is close to Mrs Warnecke’s heart because her husband John served as a firefighter in Basildon, Essex before retiring. The charity provides assistance to both serving and retired personnel, their widow/ers and young dependants through the provision of sheltered accommodation, recuperative facilities, rehabilitation and therapy.

Chief Fire Officer Matt Littmoden said, “The Fire Fighter’s Charity is so important to everyone in the Brigade, both uniformed and non uniformed, serving and retired. We are very grateful to Mrs Warnecke for her hard work in raising these much needed funds.”
