Fore Street, St Dennis at 05/05/2008 01:58
Whilst speaking to Fire Control in Truro after dialling 999, three people managed to escape when they discovered that the cottage they were in was full of smoke.
Two fire appliances from St Dennis and a fire appliance from St Columb attended. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a carbon dioxide fire extinguisher and one hosereel to deal with the fire, which was located under the stairs. The rest of the end-terraced property, measuring six metres by four metres, was smoke logged. Once the fire was out, a positive pressure ventilation fan was used to clear the smoke.
Paramedics attended for the three occupants who were suffering the effects of smoke inhalation.
There were no smoke alarms fitted in the house.
Fire Safety Advice:
A properly fitted working smoke alarm will give an early indication of a fire and thus give any occupants extra time to escape.
If you already have smoke alarms fitted in your property, please test them now.
If you do not have smoke alarms fitted, then please ring the free Fire Safety Helpline for advice or to arrange a Home Fire Safety Check on 0800 3581 999.
