St Ives and Penzance Fire Station are holding a Retained Recruitment Evening at Penzance Fire Station on Monday 19th May at 7pm.
The Retained Fire Service is made up of men and women who come from all walks of life and is keen to represent as wide a demographic as possible. As such, the Brigade would particularly like to encourage women and other unrepresented groups to consider joining.
Interested individuals are invited to come along, attend a working drill night, observe training and ask questions before being put through their paces and take a physical and written test.
If you can answer 'Yes' to the following questions, then this could be the new career for you:
· Are you physically fit?
· Do you hold a minimum of a provisional driving licence?
· Do you live/work within 4 minutes of the fire station?
Attendees do not have to have already completed an application form, as these will be provided on the night but they will need to wear suitable clothing and footwear to carry out the physical tests.
Dave Carlisle, Station Officer at Penzance says, “We hope to see a good number of interested applicants coming along to see exactly what the Fire Service can offer them as Retained Firefighters. Applicants should have a good level of fitness as we will be asking them to take the Chester Step Test, as well as a written test.”
Completed applications will need to be returned to Brigade HQ Personnel by Monday 9th June 2008 and successful candidates from the recruitment evening will be called to interview at their chosen Station before Wednesday 25th June 2008. The training courses to become a Retained Firefighter will begin in Autumn 2008.
