On initial reports of this incident, appliances from Callington and one from Bere Alston in Devon were mobilised. On arrival at the scene further assistance was requested, two further appliances from Saltash and two from Tavistock were mobilised, also a water carrier from Plymouth. The incident involved a range of single storey sheds measuring 14 x 45 metres, containing gas cylinders, paint and vehicles, which were well alight, at one time the crews fought the fire from a distance using two jets.
Further resources from Devon which included the closest aerial ladder platform, which was from Plymouth and a hose layer from Tavistock also attended. Three jets were used and firefighters were committed wearing breathing apparatus.
The aerial ladder platform was used as a water tower to cool cylinders which were involved.
One person was treated at the scene by West Country Ambulance personnel for superficial burns and the effects of smoke inhilation and was taken to Derriford Hospital purely as a precautionary measure.
Crews were delayed for a considerable time, with the last appliance returning home at approximately 2230 hours.
The cause was believed accidental.
