Firefighters from Bodmin Fire Station visited Denby Riding Stables at Nanstallon on Saturday 17th May to accept a cheque for £868 for the Fire Fighters Charity.
The cash was raised by staff, children and friends that use the stables on a sponsored ride that took place over the Christmas period. The staff at the stables chose the Fire Fighters Charity to be this year’s benefactor after firefighters rescued one of their horses last year. The horse, ‘Koda’ had been found submerged in a bog and the Firefighters from Bodmin were called to carry out a rescue using specialist equipment.
Pauline Bolton, of the stables said, “We are delighted to be presenting this cheque to the Firefighters Charity. Without these firefighters we would have lost one of our horses so all of the staff, children and friends of the stables worked very hard to raise as much money as possible to show them our appreciation.”
Assistant Divisional Officer Sacha Wheatman added, “It means a lot to us that the children, friends and staff have raised this money for the Firefighters Charity, which benefits so many firefighters, their families and burns victims. Carrying out a rescue of a horse like Koda is just part of what we do everyday, so we are always overwhelmed when people go out of their way to show their appreciation like this.”
