Cornwall County Fire Brigade’s Central Division is holding a ‘Come and have a go’ event at Truro Fire Station on 19th and 20th July to encourage people to join as Retained Firefighters.
The event is being held for people interested in becoming Retained Firefighters in the following communities:
· Fowey
· Newquay
· Mevagissey
· Padstow
· Polruan
· St. Austell
· St. Columb
· St. Dennis
· St. Mawes
· Truro
Interested individuals are being invited to book a place on sessions at 9.00-12.00 and 13.00-16.00 on Saturday and Sunday by calling 01726 72582. People who come along will be able to meet existing Retained Firefighters and chat to them, try some of the practical elements of being a firefighter and see firefighters at work, as well as pick up an application form.
Our retained service is made up of people from all walks of life and we are keen to meet people from across our community. The Brigade would particularly like to encourage women, black and minority ethnic and other unrepresented groups to consider joining.
If you can answer YES to the following questions, then this could be the new career for you:
· Do you have the skills and experience to become an operational fire fighter?
· Do you hold a minimum of a provisional driving licence?
· Do you live/work within 5 minutes of the fire station?
Dave Pilling, Sub Officer, Central Division says, "We are always looking for good candidates to join the retained crews across the central region and even at stations where we don’t currently have vacancies we need people ready and waiting for when we do. We hope to see a good number of interested applicants coming along to see exactly what the Fire Service can offer them as Retained Firefighters. We hope that being able to talk to existing retained firefighters about being in the service will help people to decide if this is the career for them."
