On reports of a child believed washed away in a river at Bude, Cornwall County Fire Brigade mobilised resources to assist at the scene. Both appliances from Bude also an appliance from Launceston were mobilised to the incident, also both water rescue resources from St. Austell and Falmouth were sent to the scene as well as an appliance from Devon. The Brigade worked alongside, and coordinated with crews from Devon and Somerset FRS, the Coastguard, RNLI and Police as well as helicopters from the Police and RAF.
Crew members used dry suits to search the river extensively. The river was very fast flowing but all agencies worked together extremely closely to search as thoroughly as possible.
The casualty was recovered from the river at around 2.30pm and then transferred via RAF helicopter to Derriford hospital.
