Cornwall County Fire Brigade offers Taster Sessions For Retained Hopefuls

at 26/08/2008 15:35

Following the recent successful ‘Have a go’ event at Truro Fire Station in July, Cornwall County Fire Brigade is once again offering aspiring Retained Firefighters the chance to try recruitment activities at a series of three ‘Have a go’ events across the county.

· 10th September 2008 at Bodmin 1-4pm
· 10th September 2008 at St Columb 6-9pm
· 21st September 2008 at St Ives 10-4pm

The events are for anyone interested in becoming a Retained Firefighter from across Cornwall.* Places are limited and need to be booked by calling 01872 323744.

People who come along will be able to meet existing Retained Firefighters and chat to them, try some of the practical elements of being a firefighter and see firefighters at work, as well as pick up an application form.

Our retained service is made up of people from all walks of life and we are keen to meet people from across our community. Successful candidates are provided with extensive training and development by the Fire Brigade in order that they can become operational retained firefighters. The Brigade would particularly like to encourage women, black and minority ethnic and other unrepresented groups to consider joining.

If you can answer YES to the following questions, then this could be the new career for you:

· Do you have the skills and experience to become an operational fire fighter?

· Do you hold a minimum of a provisional driving licence?

· Do you live/work within 5 minutes of the fire station?

Lee Griffin, Station Officer says, "We were overwhelmed by the response to our central division ‘Have a go’ event in July and wanted to extend the event to the whole of Cornwall. We always need good candidates to join the list for retained crews across Cornwall and hope to see a good number of interested applicants coming along to see exactly what the Fire Service can offer them as Retained Firefighters."

*Please note, a selection of areas and times have been chosen in order that there may be a convenient time for everyone that is interested. You do not need to live near to your most convenient session to come along to the taster, just within 5mins of your local station.
