Firefighters Have a Night of Madness To Raise Funds For Albanian Appliances

at 15/09/2008 10:07

Firefighters from Camborne have pledged to raise funds to send two much needed fire appliances to Albania, and this Friday, 5th September, they will be continuing their fundraising efforts with a special event at Tyack’s Hotel in Camborne.

Entry to the event is free, and to add to the ‘madness’ popular ska band, ‘Rudies Message’ will be playing. A raffle being run at the event will raise essential funds towards the firefighters’ venture to drive two surplus fire appliances to Albania.

Dave Harvey, the firefighter who is heading up the fundraising initiative explains, “We hope to raise enough money this year to drive at least one surplus fire appliance to Albania, but two if we can, plus any ancillary kit along with fire kit such as tunics, leggings and helmets. Albania is one of Europe’s poorest countries whose Fire Service is severely neglected and under funded so we hope that this initiative will go a long way to helping them.”

The initiative is being run in conjunction with the Rotary Club International (RCI)who has pledged support, funds and advice to the team. The RCI will also deliver an ambulance to a town in Kosova on the Albanian border, meaning the appliances and ambulance will travel in a convoy together through Europe.

Firefighters have so far raised £1000 and will be holding numerous events to raise yet more cash over the rest of the year.
