Firefighters from Penzance Fire Station would like to thank the public who attended their Wild West Night back in August for raising much needed funds for local charity the ‘Child General Health Fund’.
They also want to thank everyone who helped organisers and the suppliers – superb local band ‘The Vision’, Penwithian Wholesales and the Alexandra Inn without whose support the event would not have gone off with such a bang!
Des O’Connell, Sub Officer at Penzance explains, “We have an event every year and choose a different charity each time. This year, a little girl called Rosie Howis was the inspiration for choosing the ‘Child General Health Fund’, which makes the children’s stay in the Sennen children’s cancer ward at Treliske Hospital a little more comfortable for them and their parents. Several firefighters know Rosie and her family and have been overwhelmed with her bravery so we were delighted to receive so much support from the public and raise a lot of money for the cause.”
Firefighters attended a presentation at the hospital last week and handed over a cheque for £500 to the ward, as well as making visits to the children – including Rosie who was undergoing treatment.
Ken Yeo, Lib Dem Executive Member for Public Protection added, “It’s great when firefighters give up their spare time to help others in this way. The local community came out in force to support this event, had a fantastic evening but have also done something very important for local children. I can speak on behalf of the firefighters when I say how grateful we are for the public’s support and the contributions made by local businesses and entertainers at such events, and am very pleased to see that the firefighters great work had such a beneficial outcome.”
