Crews from Delabole, Line rescue equipment from Bodmin, and Water rescue kit from St Austell attended an incident where a pig had fallen into a slurry pit. The slurry pit measured 2 meters wide, 30 meters long and was two meters deep. Before the arrival of the brigade the farmer pumped slurry from the pit to stop the pig from drowning. Two firefighters in dry suits and breathing apparatus entered the slurry pit with four crew standing by in dry suits and breathing apparatus. The crew had to wade through 12 inches of slurry to catch the pig who was at the far end of the pit. Crews used a short extension ladder, strops and lines to rescue the pig from the slurry pit. The pig which weighed approx 85 kilos was rescued unharmed and returned to its owner.
