Please note that due to the sad death of one of the police officers involved in this project, the launch will not be going ahead as planned this Friday, 17th October.
An alternative date will be sent shortly.
All media colleagues are invited to join the emergency services next week, who are celebrating the launch of a pioneering DVD aimed at supporting the many migrant workers across the county. The launch event will be held at the Flashpoint Centre in Bodmin, starting at 1230 on Friday 17th October.
The DVD is the result of 12 months collaborative working between the Devon and Cornwall police, Cornwall County Fire Brigade, South Western Ambulance Service and Amber Initiatives (a migrant worker organisation) to create a DVD aimed at providing advice to Migrant Workers.
Available to view in English, Russian and Polish, the DVD contains information to help migrant workers coming into the county, and each emergency service has key themes within the DVD.
From the police perspective it shows aspects on personal safety, evenings out, driving, stop and search, domestic violence and abuse, and how to contact police.
The fire section includes information on smoke alarms, kitchen safety, electrics, cigarettes, candles, making a fire plan and what to do in the event of a fire.
The dedicated ambulance service section gives advice about calling an ambulance, what to do if involved in a road traffic collision, chest pain, what to do in the event that someone has collapsed or had an accident, choking, bleeding and contacting the ambulance service.
This exciting DVD is certainly the first of its kind throughout the region. The principle aim of its production is to ensure that everyone residing in the county is aware of the variety of services available to them and equip them with the knowledge of what to do if faced with an emergency situation.
A spokesman for the project said: "This has been an excellent example of partnership working between the emergency services and a local migrant worker support organisation. All three services are extremely pleased with the outcome of this pioneering project."
